Student of the Horse

Jacque Richey was born and raised in Billings, Montana. She crawled out of her highchair onto her first horse at the tender age of three and has been on them ever since. As a young lady she was fortunate to have the opportunity to show Quarter Horses, Pony of Americas and Arabians. She qualified five times for the world POA Show and was a World Youth Qualifier for AQHA. She also received the Outstanding Horsemanship Award from the Montana 4-H with multiple highpoints in all breeds.

After many years of showing she decided to look deeper into the mind of her four legged friends and find out what all the great horseman already knew but was eluding her. Throughout her 30 plus years with horses she had attended many Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt clinics. It has only been during the last 8 years with Ronnie Willis of Dillon and Aimme Brimhall and Pat Parelli that have opened the window to what she believes is the beginning of her understanding of the wonderful and loving being called the horse. Jacque now realizes that they are the teachers and she has a lot to learn. Horses are a wonderful puzzle with much forgiveness and she feels very blessed to be in the presence of each new horse she meets.

Jacque’s mission at Thunderball Ranch and with all of her clients is to make sure each horse she comes in contact with understands that human beings are there friends and can be an excellent partner. Communication works both ways with horses and Jacque will never MAKE a horse do anything. She is a fair negotiator with love and understanding, building a desire for the horse to WANT to try for her. She always asks politely with love, patience and respect. The heart and desire of the horse will out weigh any impressive pedigree hands down. Look at Sea Biscuit!

The Thunderball Ranch believes that the patience to ask for the heart and desire of the horse, along with the best of feed and mental and physical stimuli will provide horses that are the healthiest and most balanced horses you will find anywhere.
